My post undergraduate work experience in fashion, film specialty costume and aerospace focused almost entirely on “How?”.  In graduate school, it has been refreshing to pause and switch to “Why?”.  When a fellow classmate, Ty Van de Zande, approached me with a technology he’d been developing, I was intrigued by a new “What?”.  Through an ensuing collaborative project, we’ve explored the intersection of “What?  Why?  How?” in an exciting speculative design project.  Next semester, we plan to push the speculative into the material with an experimental product.  Independently, it’s time for a deep dive into the ethics of technology.
